Robin was born
in County Durham but spent his formative years in East Yorkshire, moving
to Beverley where he now lives with his wife, Christine, and their rescue
dogs. After a spell teaching at Beverley Grammar School and Wolfreton
he became involved in teacher training and moved to Hull College of Education.
His interest in ecology led him to a doctorate and subsequent post at
the University of Humberside specialising in landscape ecology and image
analysis.
Robin’s landscape paintings were first exhibited in The Beverley
Art Exhibition and the Ferens Art Gallery, where they sold at the opening
evenings. Subsequent exhibitions have consolidated his reputation as a
serious landscape and townscape artist and prompted the release of limited
edition prints, largely of local scenes, which have become increasingly
popular. As well as conventional commissions, he has illustrated a series
of books by children’s author John Spencer which are now on general
release. His work has also been selected for publication in ‘Paint’
the journal of the Society for All Artists.
Recently Robin’s originals have been accepted for national exhibition,
including the Royal Society of Artists Prize Exhibition in Birmingham,
C21 (Royal Watercolour Society) Exhibition at Bankside Gallery London
and the Singer-Friedlander (Sunday Times) at the Mall Galleries in London
where his work was short listed for a prize. He has exhibited at the Sculpture
Hall, Manchester and the Industrial Gallery, Birmingham Museum Art Gallery.
Examples of his work are also to be found in private collections worldwide. This year Robin was the winner of the Society for all Artists' “Professional Artist of the Year, 2008” in the waterscape/seascape category.
In his youth Robin was best known for his tennis, having played county
tennis for Yorkshire and twice made the qualifying competition for Wimbledon.
He is a qualified free fall parachutist, hang glider pilot and karate
brown belt. Adrenalin is now fuelling production of watercolour paintings,
which are now his consuming passion.
